WhatsApp is one of the most used social media apps around the world. The Meta-owned instant messaging app is constantly updated with new features and improvements to enhance the user experience. WhatsApp is currently working on a number of new features, as reported by WaBetaInfo. Here is a list of features coming soon to WhatsApp web and mobile apps. Take a look

The ability to talk to yourself

Currently, WhatsApp users can send messages to themselves. With the new feature, the platform will highlight that conversation by adding “message to self” as a conversation caption. The WaBetaInfo report adds that the option to chat with your phone number will also be available in your contact list on WhatsApp, making it easier for users to access their chat.

Profile pictures in group chats

Another WhatsApp feature in the works is the ability to set profile pictures for individual contacts in group chats. The profile picture of group members will be displayed after receiving a message in the group. If a group member does not have a profile picture or it is unavailable due to their privacy settings, the default profile icon will be displayed in the chat.

Ability to forward media with captions

WhatsApp will soon allow users to send images, videos, GIFs and documents with captions. This feature is currently available with the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.22.23.15 update from the Google Play Store. It is likely to be installed on other devices as well.

New blur tool for images

The ability to blur images is currently available to some desktop beta testers. This feature allows WhatsApp users to neatly censor sensitive information from their images. WhatsApp, according to the report, has developed two blur tools that allow users to edit their images with an alternative blur effect. Users can also choose the size of the blur to apply the effect with extreme precision

Automatic media download on desktop

WhatsApp will soon let its desktop users on both Windows and MacOS manage settings for automatic downloads of photos, videos and documents. This feature is currently only available to beta desktop users.
