Austin FC has announced an upgrade to the T-Mobile Ultra Capacity 5G network at Q2 Stadium, which means the network will now operate at higher speeds for T-Mobile users at Q2 Stadium on match days.
With the upgrade, T-Mobile customers can experience up to 16x faster download speeds during crowded matches. The stadium also has tablets connected to the T-Mobile network that provide access to food and beverage ordering.
“Q2 Stadium is a world-class facility that prioritizes technology, hospitality and, most importantly, the guest experience,” said Andy Loughnane, President of Austin FC. “We are excited to bring fans a best-in-class 5G experience at all events at Austin FC and Q2 Stadium.
“Football fans have high expectations when it comes to the best game experience,” said Neville Ray, president of technology at T-Mobile. “Bringing our Ultra Capacity 5G network to Q2 Stadium allows us to deliver great connectivity and experience throughout the stadium, just in time for the playoffs.”
Austin FC’s communications partner Boingo Wireless, which operates the bonded, neutral cellular distributed antenna system (DAS) and Wi-Fi 6 networks throughout the stadium, worked with T-Mobile on the upgrade. The upgrades will increase network speeds in areas such as bowl seating, suites, club sections, concourses and concourses for a highly connected, fan-centric experience.
