STILL WATER – Members of the Oklahoma State football team met with members of the media after practice Tuesday to discuss how to overcome Saturday’s loss to Kansas State and their preparation for Kansas. Here’s some of what they had to say:

Defensive end Brock Martin

On Tuesday’s training:
“We came out ready to practice today, definitely a lot better than how we came out Tuesday. We’ll build on that as we get ready for Saturday.”

At Kansas:
“They’re a good ball club. That coach really has them going in the right direction. They’re trying to be bowl eligible and they’re going to have to beat us or somebody else down the road, I’d rather not be us.”

On what he’s seen from the Kansas offense:
“They have some wide receivers that can go. The running back is a good player and the offensive line is a strong unit. The line works together, moves together and does very good position blocking. It’s going to be a challenge.”

Run back Jaden Nixon

When he started his first career:
“It felt good. To be able to come out and showcase what I can do with the coaches and everybody who trusts me enough to be put in that position. It’s a big role to be a running back out there on the field because you” expected to get the job done. To have that opportunity to go out and play with confidence felt great.”

On Kansas’ defense:
“They’re going to be physical. They’re always going to have some fight in them, especially when they get to their place, it’s going to be a crazy atmosphere. Like I said, we’re refocusing and getting ready to play this week. It It’s going to be a fight so it’s exciting and I’m ready.”

If you need to get the running game going:
“Definitely. This year, you could say that’s been one of our weakest points. Not having that running game, especially as a running back, has been tough because that’s our job. I have confidence in our offensive line that we’ll get it to get going. and we’re backing with the vision to see where we’re going to go. Coach Dunn, Wozniak and Gundy are all making sure we’re going to get it going.”

Cornerback Corey Black

On moving on to Kansas:
“It’s been good for us, mentally. Just to get that focus and get ready for Saturday again. We just have to work hard and we’ll be fine.”

On Cam Smith jump into an extended role:
“It’s big, and everybody’s really proud of him. He just came in and stepped up when we really needed him. He just came in and he’s been really good, really helpful for us. He does everything well.”

About the benefits of a physical training week:
“I think it’s good for the whole team to be able to go against each other, maybe not so much just against the scout team, but everybody. We do some situations against the offense, so I think that helps us (both mentally and physically). ).”

Offensive tackle Caleb Etienne

On bouncing back to have a great week of exercise:
“We’ve just got to raise our level this week. Come out and practice harder, put in the work and just not be satisfied with where we’ve been, and get better and better every day. The only thing is beating (Kansas) the this week. That’s our main focus, main goal.”

On the preparations for Kansas:
“Kansas has a good defense and a pretty good team. We feel like we’ll be able to get the ball moving down the field as long as we fix the little mistakes we had last week. It’s going to be a good game for sure. “

On working to improve the running game:
“We’re trying to get it going as much as we can. We’ve just got to keep cleaning up the little things, and hopefully that will work in our favor this week.”
