To ensure quality drinking water supply, Mayor Sarbjit Kaur today launched the first mobile water testing laboratory in the city from the Municipal Corporation office premises.

Funded under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme, the laboratory will conduct on-site testing of water samples for various quality parameters such as pH, residual chlorine, TDS, conductivity, field and turbidity (NTU).

The mayor said the mobile lab will travel around the city to take samples and spot water quality problems.

MC Commissioner Anindita Mitra said that to provide quality water to the residents, the laboratory was upgraded under AMRUT scheme as per BIS 10500 standards. The minibus was delivered to ensure that the water supplied to residents meets the quality parameters.

The van will carry out on-site tests to identify any initial signs of poor quality so that corrective action can be taken immediately.

She also said the van will collect 15-20 water samples from the city every day, including eight mandatory samples from water bodies located in various parts of the city, five-six samples from rehabilitation colonies, a sample from the village and random samples from government buildings. , hospitals, markets and complaint area etc. Twice a month it would cover all the wards of the city.
