Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in collaboration with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has launched mobile laboratories called Food security on wheels to conduct food quality inspections on Friday.
The unit was flagged off by Hyderabad Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi who speaking at the launch event said that GHMC has 30 wheels and the vehicle will be sent in one wheel every day. The vehicles are equipped with the necessary paraphernalia for on-site inspection of food adulteration.
The mayor also said: “There will be four food safety officers and one laboratory technician in the vehicle that will drive around the city to check the quality of food.
The Mayor also directed the food safety officers of all layers of GHMC to carry out inspections and check the quality of daily food items to prevent adulteration.
The mayor, who inspected the mobile facility, said strict action would be taken against those who violate food safety guidelines.
Food security on wheels
Each mobile van will include an FSO, a lab technician, a lab assistant and a driver. Citizens can call GHMC toll free number 040-21111111 for more information.
These mobile laboratories will carry out simple tests to detect common foreign bodies in milk, water, cooking oil and other food products that we consume every day.
The mobile labs will reach the unorganized sector related to street food vending, catering establishments etc. Mobile food testing laboratories can test more than 50 food categories.
