The new structural designs of the proposed high-rise administrative and academic blocks of Patna University were unveiled here on Saturday during a function to mark its 106th foundation day. Officials said plans are also underway to renovate the 96-year-old Wheeler Senate House, where the anniversary event was held. He said that the Bihar government has approved all three projects.

Two new blocks were proposed a year ago. But some changes were made in the designs,” said the university’s vice-chancellor Girish Kumar Chaudhary. “As per the plan, the campus will have a G+8 storey administrative block. It has been finalized. As per the earlier plan, the auditorium was to be on the top floor, but it has been shifted to the ground floor. The academic block will be a G+9 storied building with a cafeteria on the ground floor. The upper floors will have an average of two departments. It will also have a library, Kumar said. He also shared slides of the new design. The estimated cost of this project is Rs 139 crore.

Previous designs showed two proposed structures in a glass-fronted format. Their new incarnations feature some traditional architectural elements in the form of columns at the lower level. A senior official had earlier said that height restrictions were considered before finalizing the designs, which led to the changes.
