The Dimensity 9200 outperforms current mobile GPUs in an early GFXBench test, even Apple’s A16 | Techy Kings


An early AnTuTu benchmark has shown that the upcoming MediaTek Dimensity 9200 chipset will see an impressive boost in graphics performance by switching to ARM’s new Immortalis-G715, the first ray-tracing GPU. Several GFXBench results have now surfaced, making the upcoming chip even more impressive as it outperforms any current chipset.

This includes Apple’s latest A16 Bionic, although cross-platform comparisons aren’t always accurate, even with the same benchmark. Also, we don’t know what device is running the Dimensity 9200, but it appears to be running software that’s still under heavy development. Digital chat station reports that the ES 3.1 results increased from 176 fps to 228 fps with the latest software iteration (the AnTuTu test could have been run with the old software).

The above results (posted by Ice Universe). This looks very promising, but it’s not a proper test – these versions of GFXBench don’t use ray tracing, and these tests are old versions of OpenGL ES.

The iPhone 14 Pro duo (with A16) achieves around 190 fps in Manhattan 3.1 (1080p off-screen) and 243 fps in Manhattan 3.0 (1080p off-screen). Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (non-Plus) devices typically hit 167 fps and 187 fps respectively, but most current phones are tested with newer versions of the benchmark.

This leak also provides more information about the Dimensity 9200’s hardware. The GPU is an Immortalis-G715 MC11, compared to the Mali-G710 MC10 found in the Dimensity 9000. As for the CPU (which will feature a Cortex-X3), it will have triple-band clocks of 3.05GHz, 2.85GHz, and 2.00GHz, but we don’t know if these are the final frequencies (they may change with newer software versions).

Whatever its performance, the Dimensity 9200 will not impact Apple’s ecosystem because it will never use non-Apple silicon again. But a fast chip at the right price can turn the Android ecosystem into more than a one-horse race (the Dimension 9000 is fast, but not as mainstream as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1).

MediaTek has sent invitations to the November 8 (Tuesday next week) at an event that promises to unveil the next-generation flagship platform. That means MediaTek is looking to beat Qualcomm by a week.
