An updated version of the SafeStep mobile app has been launched to help Bangladeshis looking for safe work abroad with all the necessary information and guidance.

The app was created to empower people moving to work abroad with the knowledge and tools they need to make their recruitment and work experience safe, transparent and ethical.

The Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit (RMMRU) in collaboration with Winrock International released the update at an event held at a hotel in Dhaka on Sunday.

Akib Anwar, an officer at Winrock International, said: “Since its launch in 2020, we released four versions of the app. The latest can be downloaded from the Google Play Store.

The latest version will have options to choose different languages ​​and possible destination countries. After selecting the destination country, users will reach the welcome (main) page,” he said.

“Users will be able to register using the side menu on the home page. However, most features can be used without registration,” said Akib.

“The welcome page of the SafeStep app displays key features including digital learning materials, an immigration budget calculator, an immigration preparation checklist, a help center and a survey center,” he added.

Aroma Dutta, rights activist and Awami League lawmaker from reserved seats in Parliament, said, “Many migrant women working abroad are illiterate and may not have access to mobile apps. For this, they must be trained to use this program. through a set of simple images’.

Anisul Islam Mahmud, Chairman, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment; Mahjabeen Khaled, Secretary General of the Parliamentary Committee on Migration and Development; Shahidul Alam, Director General, Manpower Employment and Training Bureau; RMMRU Executive Director CR Abrar and Winrock International Country Representative Mesbahul Alam spoke at the event, among others.
