PATNA: In separate incidents in Patna on Monday, two youths drowned while three others were rescued by State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel while taking a bath in the Ganges on the occasion of Buddha Purnima.
One Shaan Kumar alias Aditya Kumar (18) drowned near Krishna Ghat while the other drowned near Haldichapra Ghat under Manir Block, SDRF Second-in-Command KK Jha said. Shaan’s body was recovered while the search for the other body continued till evening.
21-year-old Vivek Kumar is among the three youths rescued from drowning near Gai Ghat. While his two friends managed to swim back to the river bank, Vivek was pulled out by SDRF personnel Hem Kumar. Ten minutes later, 21-year-old Prince Kumari and his younger brother Shiv Gaurav, 17, were rescued at the same pier by SDRF personnel Amarjit.
Meanwhile, the three who drowned in Saran district’s Budhi Gandak on Sunday have not been traced. One was Sanjeet Kumar, 24, of Abhari village, while the other two were Vijay Kumar Rai, 32, and his son Rohit Kumar, 12. He was a resident of Rahimpur.
“We have deployed a diver and even laid a net today. The search operation will now continue tomorrow,” said Puneesh K Singh, in-charge of Saran SDRF team.
